Welcome to our delicious strawberry jam recipe! This homemade strawberry jam is perfect for spreading on toast, adding to desserts, or simply enjoying on its own. Follow the steps below to create a flavorful and sweet spread that will delight your taste buds.

Ingredients

  • 3 quarts fresh strawberries, hulled

  • 1 package (1.75 ounces) regular powdered fruit pectin

  • 1/2 teaspoon butter

  • 7 cups sugar

Directions

  1. Combine 1 cup of berries in an 8-quart pot, crushing them as you add. Continue until you have 5 cups of crushed berries. Stir in the pectin and butter, then heat on high, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches a full rolling boil. Add the sugar all at once and return to boiling, stirring constantly for 1 minute.
  2. Remove from heat and skim off any foam. Ladle the jam into hot, sterilized half-pint canning jars, leaving a 1/4-inch headspace. Wipe the jar rims, adjust the lids, and process in a boiling-water canner for 5 minutes, starting the timing when the water returns to boil. Remove jars and let cool on racks.

Note: Jam may require standing for 1 to 2 weeks after canning to fully set.

Tips

After canning, if your fruit separates from the liquid in the jars, invert the sealed jars once or twice a day until the fruit is well distributed.

Recipe Variations

Chunky Strawberry Jam

Prepare as directed, but do not crush the strawberries. Substitute 8 cups of coarsely chopped berries for the 5 cups of crushed berries. This variation yields about 9 cups (about 9 half-pints).

Strawberry Banana Jam

Prepare as directed, but decrease the crushed strawberries to 4 cups and add 1 cup of chopped banana to the strawberries after crushing. This variation yields about 8 cups (about 8 half-pints).

Strawberry-Basil Jam

Prepare as directed, but stir in 1/3 cup of snipped fresh basil after skimming off the foam. This variation yields about 10 cups (about 10 half-pints).
